Charleston Grits

cream 1 cup
salt 1 teaspoon
butter 1/4 cup
grits 1 cup
milk 3 cups

Combine the milk, water, salt, and butter in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Sprinkle in the grits to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat and cook until thick, stirring occasionally. Add the cream. Cook for a little while longer, stirring frequently, until they are of the desired consistency.
